Hiding Types

Use this feature to change how types are listed in the leftmost pane in the Content Studio.

Note: This feature will soon be deprecated. Something more flexible will take its place. Stay tuned.

Edit the ./config/@sanity/data-aspects.json file in your Content Studio. By default, it looks like this:

{
  "hiddenTypes": [],
  "typeOptions": {}
}

Hidden Types

If you want to hide a particular type from showing up in the type list, add it to the hiddenTypes array.

In the Movies Content Studio, we want both the crewMember and castMember types to only be editable while editing a movie. Also, browsing crewMember and castMember only makes sense in the context of a movie. Adding these two types to the hiddenTypes array makes them disappear, but only from the type list. They're still available through the movie to which the belong.

{
  "hiddenTypes": ["crewMember", "castMember"],
  "typeOptions": {}
}

Alternative Display Name

If you're not happy with how a type name appears, you can tell the UI to render something else. Say you wanted "Movie" to appear as "Film". You can specify an alternative display name like so:

{
  "hiddenTypes": [],
  "typeOptions": {
    "movie": {
      "displayName": "Film"
    }
  }
}
